Dear Friends of Portland Green Streets,
After a search that drew much interest and support, the Portland Green Streets’ (PGS) board of directors is excited to name Meredith Johnson as our new Director. Meredith has been a member of Portland Green Streets since 2007, and is an avid cyclist, environmentalist, and alternate transportation advocate. A resident of Portland, she has been a consistent bicycle commuter during the spring, summer and fall seasons. Last year she became voluntarily car-free throughout the entire year, and taught herself to rely on the Portland public transit system.
Meredith brings a multitude of relevant skills and capabilities to launch Portland Green Streets successfully into our next phase. As a proposal writer and previously as a communications coordinator for an environmental engineering firm, she is skilled in grant writing, group organizing, event planning, and web design. Meredith is able to effectively communicate her passion for green transportation in our amazing Greater Portland region.
The Portland Green Streets grassroots mission to encourage the use of alternate transportation inspired Meredith to start her own company bike group at work, where she leads weekly rides and coordinates the team’s participation in larger event rides. She is experienced in organizing and managing groups of people for a common purpose both professionally such as completing a strategic proposal, and recreationally such as organizing rides for her company bike team. Meredith holds a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, which will be ideal for working with transportation entities as PGS advocates to expand pedestrian, bicycling and transit infrastructure.
Please join me in welcoming Meredith as Portland Green Streets’ new Director. You can meet her in person at a special Green Streets Drop-In Volunteer Social on Thursday, March 17 from 6:30-8pm at Hilltop Coffee (90 Congress St). I know she will keep us moving forward to change transportation behavior throughout Greater Portland!
